Annual firearm refresher training.
Mandatory yearly refresher.
Regulation 21 of the Firearms Control Act 2000 (Act 60 of 2000) requires every person issued with a company firearm to undergo proper practical training at least once every 12 months.
This refresher training is mandatory for security officers, trainers, Close Protection Officers (CPOs), game rangers, and any other personnel permitted to use a company firearm.

Compliance with the Firearms Control Act.
Regulation 21 (viii): Security officers issued with firearms must undergo at least one proper practical training session, at the cost of the security company, at least every 12 months.
Regulation 21 (s)(ix): Security officers must attend at least one briefing session every 12 months regarding legal principles, rules, procedures, and their legal duties regarding the safe custody and use of firearms.
Chapter 3, Section 14: The training must comply with the South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA) and Skills Development Act requirements.
